Local police officers and children partner for 19th annual CopShop
The 19th annual CopShop, presented by Halifax Shopping Centre and Halifax Regional Police (HRP), will take place on Wednesday, December 6 at 11 a.m. at Halifax Shopping Centre.
For the event, HRP officers will become personal shoppers to 52 local children as they set out for a special shopping spree. Each child will receive a $200 gift card generously donated by Halifax Shopping Centre, a stocking filled with goodies and a new winter coat from Sport Chek. In the spirit of giving, Halifax Shopping Centre will also give each shopping duo a $10 gift card to help pay it forward; the CopShop participant will purchase a gift for a child the same age, which the mall will then donate to the Salvation Army Toy Drive.
This year, players from the Halifax Mooseheads will also be joining officers to assist with the shopping. There has been a partnership between the hockey team and police service since 1994 with the One-on-One program, which pairs a player with a police officer to act as a positive role model and support them as required.
