Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon elected Deputy Mayor

District 1 Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon was elected today by her fellow Councillors to serve for the next year as Deputy Mayor for the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The new Deputy Mayor takes over from Deputy Mayor Sam Austin, who held the position for the past 12 months.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be Deputy Mayor and a responsibility I do not take lightly,” says Deputy Mayor Deagle Gammon. “My commitment to Mayor and Council is to be fully present and supportive in this role, as we manage through this challenging year ahead.

A resident of Fall River for 25 years, Deputy Mayor Deagle Gammon was elected to represent District 1 – Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley in October 2020. Over the course of her career, Deputy Mayor Deagle Gammon excelled in establishing and maintaining partnerships, negotiating with all three levels of government, and inspiring corporate and business communities to share in her vision of an inclusive society.

She spent the most recent 25 years as Executive Director of DASC Industries, a vocational and social enterprise in Dartmouth which has become a leader in service provision for persons with intellectual disabilities.
