Traffic Delays – Remembrance Day parades
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of a number of rolling street closures and traffic delays that will be in place across the region on Saturday, Nov. 11 to facilitate Remembrance Day parades.
Local ceremonies will take place to honour our veterans and those still serving with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Traffic delays will be in place at the following locations between 10:30 a.m. and noon:
- Veteran’s War Memorial at Sullivan’s Pond, Dartmouth – The parade will impact King Street, Ochterloney Street and Crichton Avenue.
- Province House, Halifax – The parade will impact Lower Water, Duke Hollis, Sackville and Prince streets.
- Cenotaph at Sackville Heritage Park, Sackville – The parade will impact Memory Lane.
- Cenotaph at Earl Francis Spryfield Memorial Royal Canadian Legion, Spryfield – The parade will impact Herring Cove Road and Sussex Street
Residents are reminded that the Royal Canadian Legion has moved this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony from Grand Parade to the cenotaph at Sullivan’s Pond. Residents are also encouraged to contact their local Royal Canadian Legion or visit their website to learn more about the ceremonies that will be held at various locations across the municipality
Motorists are advised to obey officers on the street and watch for increased pedestrian volumes throughout the morning. Given the anticipated traffic delays, those attending Remembrance Day ceremonies are encouraged to allocate extra time in their travel plans.
Residents are encouraged to take a moment on Nov. 11 to remember those who have served and continue to serve our country.

Municipal service level adjustments for Remembrance Day
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for Remembrance Day:
Solid Waste
There will be no change to municipal solid waste collection services. To ensure collection, residents are asked to place materials curbside, contained and secured to prevent access from wildlife, prior to 7 a.m. on collection day.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 11 but will be open on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (public drop-off area only).
The Household Special Waste Depot will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 11 but will be open on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services
In recognition of those who serve our country, Halifax Transit is offering free transit to all veterans and military personnel, and their accompanying family members, on Remembrance Day. On Saturday, Nov. 11, veterans and military personnel wishing to use the free transit service are asked to be in uniform or display their military identification upon boarding. This offer extends to Halifax Transit bus and harbour ferry services, as well as registered Access-A-Bus users.
Residents are also advised that buses will pull over at 11 a.m. to pause for three minutes of silence, to honour and remember those who served and continue to serve.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services
Most municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 11 and Monday, Nov. 13. Sackville Sports Stadium will be open on Saturday, Nov. 11 with modified hours and will be open regular hours on Monday, Nov. 13 (no child care 8:30 a.m. to noon). Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is online.
Parking
On-street paid parking will be free on Monday, Nov. 13. Motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage, including no stopping, accessible parking spaces and no parking zones.
Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 11 for full service; however urgent calls can still be reported. Regular operating hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday) will resume on Sunday, Nov. 12. In-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Monday, Nov. 13. Customer Service Centres will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Remembrance Day ceremonies
Remembrance Day ceremonies are organized by the Royal Canadian Legion. Residents may contact their local Legion or visit their website to learn more.
Residents are encouraged to take a moment on Remembrance Day to remember those who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.
