Shelburne RCMP charge man with firearms offences

Shelburne RCMP has charged a man with firearms offences after an incident in Shelburne.

On October 6, at approximately 10 p.m., Shelburne RCMP responded to a report of a man driving with a shotgun and threatening to shoot people in the Shelburne area. RCMP officers learned that a 19-year-old Lockeport man was driving a grey Honda Civic and he had threatened to shoot four people as a result of a dispute with a 27-year-old Lockeport man. The suspect also tried to strike a female youth with his vehicle as part of the dispute.

At approximately 10:52 p.m., RCMP officers located the suspect on West Green Harbour Rd. in West Green Harbour and a traffic stop was initiated on Hwy. 3 in West Green Harbour. The suspect was safely arrested and RCMP officers noted that he was displaying signs of impairment. The suspect failed a roadside screening test and was transported to the Shelburne Detachment where he provided samples of breath that were over the legal limit.

During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, a shotgun, a replica pistol, ammunition, and a baseball bat were seized. No one was injured as a result of these incidents.

Carter Morash, 19, of Lockeport, has been charged with:

  • Uttering Threats (4 counts);
  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Attempted Assault with a Weapon (3 counts);
  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance equal to, or over, 80mg%;
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (3 counts);
  • Possession of Ammunition for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle (2 counts);
  • Careless Transportation of a Firearm;
  • Careless Transportation of Ammunition

Morash was remanded into custody and will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court later today.
