SAFETY TIPS FOR DRIVING ON WET LEAVES

Autumn Leaves Are Major Road Hazards

Wet leaves are extremely slippery and can cause driving hazards on the road. Give yourself plenty of room and be careful when taking corners. Slow down if the road is covered in leaves, and make sure you stop early enough to avoid an accident.

• Slow down. When on a wet, leaf-covered road, reduce your speed. You should drive under the speed limit, as you would during heavy rain or in icy conditions.

• Brake gently. If you need to slow down, avoid jamming on the brakes. Your tires may spin out if you tap the brakes too abruptly on wet leaves.

• Keep your distance. Maintain at least two car lengths between your vehicle and the one in front of you. This distance will give you time to react calmly if the car ahead begins to skid.
