**** Halifax Water Release
Maintaining Critical Services During Hurricane Fiona
In advance of Hurricane Fiona, Halifax Water is operating within its’ Incident Command System (ICS) structure and is working closely with the city and the province through their Emergency Operations Centres.
Teams have been preparing for the storm, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available for crews to respond to storm-related issues. Staff are currently inspecting our infrastructure to ensure it is operating at full capacity and mitigating any areas of risk.
We strongly encourage residents to ensure that catchbasins, culverts, and drains are free of leaves and other debris if it is safe to do so. An interactive map of catchbasins can be found here: https://halifaxwater.ca/fire-hydrants-catchbasins
If residents experience flooding or other areas of concern during the storm, they should report them to 311 or our Customer Care Centre 24/7 Emergency Line at 902-420-9287.
Given the weather forecast and the potential for system outages, we recommend that residents store at least three days’ worth of potable water for each person in the home for emergency purposes.
To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
