Rainfall warning in effect
Rain, at times heavy with scattered thunderstorms, is expected.
Total rainfall amount: 30 to 70 mm. Possibly higher in thunderstorms.
Rainfall rate: 30 to 50 mm/h possible in thunderstorms.
Location: central and western Nova Scotia.
Remarks: A low pressure system over New England will cross the region tonight and Wednesday. Rain, heavy at times, with embedded thunderstorms giving torrential downpours will move into western Nova Scotia this evening. This area of rain will reach central Nova Scotia near midnight tonight. Total rainfall amounts will be highly variable in the warned counties due to the embedded convection. Rainfall rates of 10 to 20 mm/h are expected in general, with rates of 30 to 50 mm/h possible in the strongest thunderstorms. These torrential rates were observed earlier today in southern New England. Should the system strengthen further as it approaches Nova Scotia, rates above 50 mm/h could be possible.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
