RCMP update on missing people during flood conditions

Early this morning, West Hants RCMP received reports of four people who are unaccounted for following flooding conditions in the area.

Two children are unaccounted for following an incident in West Hants where the vehicle they were travelling in was submerged. Three of the five occupants, known to them, were able to escape.

A youth and another man are also unaccounted for after the vehicle they were travelling in was submerged, also in West Hants. Two of the four occupants were rescued from the vehicle.

Out of respect for the families we will not be releasing their identities or any additional personal information at this time.

The multi-agency search for the four missing people is ongoing and includes efforts by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, and Department of Natural Resources and Renewables.

We are asking the public not to leave their homes in a search for the missing as current conditions are dangerous.

We have no further reports of missing people or of any injuries at this time. We are, however, continuing to receive reports of stranded people relating to flooding conditions.

Our officers, alongside our partners, and our Operational Communications Centre continue to be fully engaged in supporting these efforts.
