Municipality launches Halifax Transit safety campaign

Halifax Transit has launched a new Transit Code campaign focused on creating a safe transit environment.

The campaign’s core message is that everyone, including staff, deserve to feel safe on Halifax Transit buses, ferries and at terminals, with the goal to support a safe space for passengers and safe workplace for staff.

Municipal staff continue to determine ways to further reinforce safety on transit. This includes the installation of Driver Protection Systems, also known as shields, which are scheduled to be installed on every conventional bus by March 2024. Additional funding has also been allocated for the hiring of more service supervisors to provide more support to Operators. Additionally, a new transit by-law currently under review by Regional Council will also aim to provide further protection for transit employees.

Previous Transit Code campaigns included the Transit Code 8 Principles, the Anti-Racism campaign, the Anti-Littering campaign and the Anti-Sexual Harassment campaign. For more information, visit halifax.ca/transitcode.
