Update: RCMP charge a person in relation to the fire hydrants mischief
Yarmouth Town RCMP has charged a person with mischief following the tampering of fire hydrants in Yarmouth.
On June 29, 2023, at approximately 9 a.m., Yarmouth Town RCMP received a report of mischief to several fire hydrants on Brunswick, King, Beacon Main, Marsha and Water streets. RCMP officers learned that several hydrants had been tampered with, including the removal of the hydrant caps and the activation of the hydrants.
RCMP officers followed up on tips received from the public, obtained video footage of the area and as a result identified a person involved.
On July 8, RCMP officers attended a home on Trinity Pl. and safely arrested an 18-year-old from Yarmouth.
Carter Gilks, 18, has been charged with Common Nuisance, Mischief (six counts) and Theft (four counts).
Gilks was later released by the Courts and is scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on August 14, at 9:30 a.m.
