Halifax Transit service reductions remain in effect
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that, due to ongoing staffing challenges, the current Halifax Transit service reductions will remain in effect until further notice.
On February 27, 2023, Halifax Transit temporarily implemented service reductions due to staffing shortages. The intention was to return to regular service levels by late summer, pending staffing availability.
While progress has been made with respect to recruitment, the February service reductions will remain in place and continue until further notice.
Ferry and Access-A-Bus services are not impacted by these service reductions and are expected to continue as scheduled.
Additionally, as of August 28, 2023, routes 7B and 22 will undergo minor schedule adjustments as part of ongoing adjustments for service quality and reliability. More information on these route changes will be available on the municipality’s webpage by August 28, 2023.
Halifax Transit continues to actively improve staffing levels with new recruitment to alleviate the current stress on the system.
As of the end of March 2023, roughly 598 of the budgeted 640 Conventional Bus Operator positions were filled, leaving 42 vacancies. Based on staffing levels, efforts to increase service capacity will be re-evaluated over the coming months as we look to return to full service.
The Halifax Transit Riders’ Guide, route maps, third party apps, and terminal posters will be updated to reflect routes and trips in service effective August 28, 2023.
