Municipal fires and impacts update – June 5, 7:30 p.m.
Monday, June 5, 2023 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following updates to municipal services as well as supports to those impacted by the fires.
Evacuation area update
The evacuation order has been lifted for the following area:
- As of 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5 – the Upper Hammonds Plains area (Phase 2)
Access to the area is now available via Pockwock Road. The following roadways are not accessible and residents cannot return to properties on the streets in the area of significant impact: Bonsai Drive, Cypress Court and Yew Street.
As soon as it is safe to do so, Nova Scotia Power will reconnect power to these communities. The power will be restored later this evening.
Starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, through-traffic will be permitted along Hammonds Plains Road. Police and security will be ensuring no traffic will be permitted into the evacuation area from Hammonds Plains Road. Those travelling on this road are reminded to reduce speed, as first responders continue to operate in the area.
The area of significant impact located within Phase 3, is not expected to be opened for approximately 6 to 10 days. More information on further openings will be announced once it is safe to lift the evacuation orders in those areas.

These kits will be available for pick up on Tuesday, June 6 from to 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Station 50 (2050 Hammonds Plains Road). Future availability of these kits will be announced as required.
