Municipal fires and impacts update – June 3, 9:15 a.m.
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following updates and impacts to municipal services as a result of the ongoing fires.
Monitoring the situation
The status of the evacuation zone continues to be assessed and an update on any changes will be shared as soon as a decision has been made. The latest information is available on halifax.ca/fire. View the most recent map of the fire evacuation areas and state of local emergency zone that outlines the area of significant impact.
Evacuation centre
The 24/7 evacuation centre at Canada Games Centre (26 Thomas Raddall Drive) is no longer required. The Canada Games Centre will operate as a comfort centre on Saturday, June 3 from noon to 9 p.m. (see further comfort centre details below).
Comfort centres
Comfort centre details are as follows:
- Black Point and Area Community Centre | 8579 St Margarets Bay Road. The comfort centre opened at 8 a.m. and will close at 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 3.
- Canada Games Centre | 26 Thomas Raddall Drive. The comfort centre will operate as a comfort centre from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 3.
Note: The Beaver Bank Kinsac Community Centre (1583 Beaver Bank Road) is no longer required and has closed.
Nova Scotia Health’s mobility primary care clinic is hosting a drop-in clinic at the Canada Games Centre on Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, major insurance companies and their representatives will be available to speak with affected residents on Saturday, June 3 at the Canada Games Centre. Future opportunities to speak with their representatives will be available in the coming days.
Solid Waste
To allow for prompt disposal of spoiled food, the municipality is providing drop-off bins for residents in the Stillwater Lake and Haliburton Hills neighbourhoods that experienced power loss during the mandatory evacuation. Packaged food is permitted. Glass containers and leaf/ yard waste is not permitted. Drop-off bin locations:
- 30 Bingham Drive (municipal greenspace)
- 239 Windsor Drive (municipal greenspace)
Garbage collection for the Indigo Shores and Lucasville areas will resume on Saturday, June 3. Regular collection limits apply. Residents are reminded that collection can begin as early as 7 a.m.
Garbage set out limits on Monday, June 5 will be relaxed only in the Stillwater Lake and Haliburton Hills neighbourhoods (area where evacuation order has been lifted).
Garbage set out limits on Tuesday, June 6 will be relaxed only in the Hammonds Plains Area – Kingswood neighbourhood (area where evacuation order has been lifted).
A reminder that the municipality’s Curbside Giveaway Week, planned for today and tomorrow, has been cancelled. The next Curbside Giveaway Weekend will be held on the weekend of Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15.
