Northeast RCMP Traffic Services – Cape Breton investigating fatal crash
Northeast RCMP Traffic Services – Cape Breton is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Hwy. 4 in Ben Eoin.
On May 25, 2023, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Northeast RCMP Traffic Services – Cape Breton, the Cape Breton Regional Police Service, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Hwy. 4 in Ben Eoin. RCMP officers learned that a grey Volkswagen Jetta had been travelling on Hwy. 4 when it left the road, struck a power pole and came to rest in the ditch.
The driver, a 19-year-old Lingan man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
There were two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The first, a 21-year-old Grand Mira woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. The second, a 20-year-old Glace Bay man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to hospital by ambulance.
A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Hwy. 4 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
