**** RCMP Media Release

If you ever have to report someone missing, contact us; every report of a missing person is taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly. We use a number of tools to help find the person, including in some cases, an AMBER Alert.

In Canada, AMBER Alert programs are operated provincially and the criteria may vary slightly in each province.

Requirements to issue an AMBER Alert in Nova Scotia:

• The abducted person must be under 18 or have a proven mental or physical disability.
• Police must believe the person is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.
• Sufficient descriptive information of the abducted person, abductor and suspect vehicle must be available.

How is the information shared?

• A public alert is sent via the Alert Ready system
• RCMP news release
• RCMPNS Twitter and Facebook accounts
• Amber Alert Nova Scotia Facebook account

Other important information:

• The RCMP can only use verified photos from our database or that we have permission to use; we cannot use photos found online.
• An AMBER Alert runs for 24 hours from the time of activation.
• When a missing person is located, we remove all personal information including photos, names and personal description from our website and social media channels to help protect their privacy.
