Nova Scotia man wanted in relation to sexual assaults involving a child arrested in Manitoba

A Nova Scotia man wanted in relation to sexual assaults involving a child, which occurred in Colchester County, was arrested in Manitoba.

In April, the Winkler Police Service received information that two men were hitchhiking in the area, and that one of the hitchhikers was believed to be from Nova Scotia.

Winkler officers had knowledge of an abandoned vehicle located the day prior and reported stolen in Nova Scotia; this vehicle was associated to a wanted Nova Scotia man.

The hitchhiker was quickly located, identified and arrested.

The man, who’s from Colchester County, was remanded into custody.

From the information and evidence gathered by the Winkler Police Service, investigators believe the man was attempting to cross into the United States.

With assistance from the Manitoba RCMP Court Liaison Unit, two Colchester County District RCMP officers flew to Manitoba and brought the man back to Nova Scotia. In addition to the sexual assault charges, which are from 2020, the man is charged with Motor Vehicle Theft and Failure to Comply with an Undertaking.

The man has since appeared in Truro Provincial Court and was sentenced to more than nine years for the sexual assault offences and Failure to Comply with an Undertaking. Later this month, he’ll reappear in relation to the motor vehicle theft.
