Boater found deceased after extensive search around Eel Lake
On April 7, at approximately 5 p.m., Meteghan RCMP, EHS, and fire responded to reports of a boat collision on Eel Lake.
Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers learned that a 14-foot aluminum boat, which was under power and travelling at speed, struck a stationary 12-foot boat in a narrow part of the lake.
As a result of the collision, both men in the 14-foot boat went into the water. One man was rescued by people in the vessel that was hit. The other man, a 62-year-old from the Halifax area, could not be located.
Neither of the men who went overboard were wearing a life jacket.
A team involving approximately 60 people looked for the missing boater throughout the weekend. Rescue boats were on the water, ground search and rescue teams combed the perimeter of the lake, and helicopters searched the area by air.
On April 9, at 7:30 p.m., RCMP divers located the missing man deceased.
Both boats involved in the collision have been seized, and the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
