FINAL UPDATE REGARDING FEBRUARY 21, 2023, UNDERWATER RECOVERY OPERATION 

The Medical Examiner Service has completed its investigation following the February 21, 2023, recovery of a body from a vehicle that had plunged into the LaHave River near the former Port of Bridgewater.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed that both foul play and medical emergency have been ruled out as possible causes of death in the matter.

The members of Bridgewater Police Service have expressed sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and, as an organization, we invite the community to join us in respecting their privacy during this time of loss.

BACKGROUND
On February 19, 2023, Bridgewater Police and water rescue craft from Bridgewater Fire Department and Northfield District Fire Department responded to a call reporting that a vehicle was spotted in the process of submerging in the waters of the LaHave River near the port. It was subsequently determined that the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team would be required to assist in the investigation. On February 21, 2023, the team recovered a body from the vehicle.

The Nova Scotia RCMP Underwater Recovery Team that carried out operations in Bridgewater during this investigation was supplemented by personnel from J Division based in New Brunswick. Their support and cooperation during this investigation is greatly appreciated.
