Halifax ComedyFest Announces Oh Canada! Comedy Show with the Canadian Museum of Immigration

Halifax ComedyFest’s second annual Oh Canada! Comedy Show takes place on Wednesday, April 26 at Pier 21.

The Oh Canada! Comedy Show  is free to attend and features comedians who are new immigrants or second-generation Canadians, featuring: Greek Canadian Angelo Tsarouchas, Ugandan-born/Toronto-based Arthur Simeon; Halifax’s own Chris Halef, an Assyrian-Canadian; Dino Archie, an American now living in Vancouver; Eman El-Husseini, a Canadian, Palestinian, Muslim; and Bangladesh-born Ali Mehedi.

Mehedi attended Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, and upon being invited to perform at the festival, posted on social media: “Halifax is my second hometown … Standup comedy is a challenging art form. It takes constant practice and dedication, and the competition is fierce. Getting a break is not easy, but when you get a break, especially from the city where you feel it is your home, it is literally the best feeling ever!”

“Given the diversity of our roster, partnering with the Canadian Museum of Immigration is a natural fit,” says Halifax ComedyFest Producer Kim Hendrickson. “Last year’s event was sold out in just a couple of days, and we expect Pier 21 to be filled with laughter again in April.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with Halifax ComedyFest on Oh Canada! for a second year,” says Marie Chapman, CEO of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. “It’s completely in line with what we do. Immigrating to a new country is full of challenges, but when people share their immigration stories with us, they often highlight hilarious moments, whether it’s an experience of culture shock (or climate shock) or mistakenly using an inappropriate word. Immigration is about the full range of human experience. Humour is part of that.”

The Oh! Canada Comedy Show is free to attend; however, audience members must claim tickets at www.halifaxcomedyfest.ca. Tickets are available at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 13, and are limited to two tickets per valid email address.

Halifax ComedyFest runs from April 26 to 29, with over 30 comedians from across North America and 12 shows in venues around the city. Full details and tickets are available at www.halifaxcomedyfest.ca.

Halifax ComedyFest is a joint venture between Premiere Entertainment Group, Pilot Light Productions, CBC and Halifax Comedy Festival Society. The event competes with the best comedy festivals in the world and is one of three comedy festivals broadcast nationally during prime-time hours on CBC Television. The television series has garnered ten Gemini Award nominations.

The festival is sponsored by Atlantica Hotel Halifax, the Canadian Museum of Immigration, and Investia Financial, with funding from the Canadian Government, Halifax Regional Municipality and the Province of Nova Scotia.
