RCMP charge two men in relation to firearms incident
Colchester County District RCMP has charged two men with firearms related offences after a vehicle was shot at on Hwy. 2 in Central Onslow in the early morning hours of Friday, March 3.
At approximately 12:26 a.m. on Friday, March 3, Colchester County District RCMP responded to a report that a vehicle travelling on Hwy. 2 in Central Onslow had been shot at with what was believed to be paintballs.
The victim, who was not injured in the incident, observed a vehicle heading slowly in the opposite direction and slowed down to see if the vehicle travelling slowly needed assistance. The victim then heard what they believed were paintball gun shots being fired at their vehicle. It was later determined that the victim’s vehicle had suffered damage from a bullet.
As the investigation progressed in the early morning hours, officers identified the suspect and suspect vehicle. Colchester County District RCMP engaged the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Air Services to support the search for the suspect.
An emergency alert was issued for Colchester and Cumberland Counties and East Hants shortly after 9 a.m. notifying local residents of the suspect who was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
Through the investigation and numerous tips received from the public, a second suspect believed to be involved in the incident was then identified.
Just after 12 p.m. on Friday, March 3, the RCMP Emergency Response Team safely arrested the second suspect, 39-year-old Jeffrey Elmer Moxsom of Lower Onslow.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., Colchester County District RCMP officers safely arrested 37-year-old Gregory Allen Barr of Mill Village on Westchester Rd. in Londonderry.
Moxsom and Barr are being held in custody and will appear in Truro Provincial Court on Monday, March 6 to face multiple charges each. Neither Moxsom nor Barr were known to the victim.
Moxsom has been charged with firearms offences including Discharge with Intent to Endanger Life, Careless Use of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
Barr has been charged with offences including Careless Use of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Flight from Police.
The investigation, led by Colchester County District RCMP and assisted by the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit, is ongoing.
We would like to extend our appreciation to Truro Police Service for their assistance in the search for the suspects and to the public for the many tips we received.
