Storm impacts on municipal services – March 3, 8 a.m. update
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following updates and impacts to municipal services as a result of the weather event.
Snow clearing operations
Operations are active in all areas. Surfaces are snow covered. Drive to the conditions and use caution. For more information, visit halifax.ca/snow.
Municipal offices
Municipal offices will open at 12 p.m. today. Employees who are able to work from home are being asked to do so.
Halifax Transit
Halifax Transit is resuming service at 10 a.m. today. For the most up-to-date information on service disruptions, residents can visit halifax.ca/transitalert or follow @hfxtransitalert on Twitter.
Solid Waste
Today’s curbside collection of garbage, organics and recyclables is cancelled. For residents who would normally have collection on March 3, collection services have been rescheduled to occur on March 4. Residents are reminded that collection can begin as early as 7 a.m.
The Household Special Waste Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive will be closed on March 4, but will be open on March 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit, halifax.ca/HSWDepot.
The following facilities are closed on March 3:
- Materials Recycling Facility at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive in Bayers Lake
- Composting facilities at 80 Gloria McCluskey Avenue in Burnside and 61 Evergreen Place in Goodwood
- Rural refuse depots located at 249 Sibley Road in Middle Musquodoboit and 21611 Highway #7 in Sheet Harbour

Parks & Recreation
Many municipal recreation facilities will delay opening until 12 p.m. Please call your local recreation centre for further information. The Public Gardens will be closed the morning of March 3.
Customer Contact Centres
In-person Customer Contact Centres will delay opening until 12 p.m. today.
The 311 Contact Centre is operating on regular hours today, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Support for those experiencing homelessness
The Province of Nova Scotia funds the operation of three emergency shelters in the Halifax region which are run by various service providers:
- Halifax (2029 North Park Street)
- Dartmouth (61 Dundas Street, Christ Church Parish Hall)
- Lower Sackville (125 Metropolitan Avenue, the former St. Elizabeth Seton Church)
The province is currently working with their service providers to add space and provide transportation, where needed. Street Navigators and Halifax Ground Search & Rescue are conducting wellness checks today and are working closely with people experiencing homelessness to ensure they know what supports are available.
Stay informed
Residents are urged to sign-up for hfxALERT, the municipality’s mass notification system. Subscribers will receive alerts by phone, email or text. Sign up at halifax.ca/hfxalert.
Residents can also call 311 for updated information on municipal services, or to report issues such as flooding, downed trees or blocked roadways. For emergencies, residents should call 911.
