RCMP charge four people in relation to a human trafficking investigation
Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit has charged four people with Intimidation of a Justice System Participant in relation to human trafficking that occurred in the Yarmouth area.
On January 22, Yarmouth Rural RCMP began an investigation after receiving a report of a sexual assault at a property in Brooklyn. RCMP officers learned that one person was sexually assaulted and a second was assaulted with the intent to intimidate them for their involvement in an ongoing judicial process related to a human trafficking investigation.
Last Friday, the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit, assisted by the RCMP Emergency Response team, arrested three men and a woman involved in the assaults. A search warrant was also executed at the Brooklyn property.
A 49-year-old Yarmouth County man was charged with:
- Unlawful Confinement
- Sexual Assault in Which Other Persons Were Also a Party
- Sexual Assault
- Intimidation of a Justice System Participant (two counts)
- Obstructing Justice (two counts)
- Criminal Harassment
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Uttering Threats (two counts)
- Assault
A 27-year-old Yarmouth County man was charged with:
- Unlawful Confinement
- Sexual Assault in Which Other Persons Were Also a Party
- Sexual Assault
- Intimidation of a Justice System Participant
- Obstructing Justice
- Criminal Harassment
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Uttering Threats
- Assault
A 48-year-old Yarmouth County man was charged with:
- Unlawful Confinement
- Sexual Assault in Which Other Persons Were Also a Party
- Sexual Assault
- Intimidation of a Justice System Participant
- Obstructing Justice
- Criminal Harassment
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Administering a Noxious Substance
- Assault
- Trafficking in a Substance
- Uttering threats
A 35-year-old Yarmouth County woman was charged with:
- Unlawful Confinement
- Sexual Assault in Which Other Persons Were Also a Party
- Sexual Assault
- Intimidation of a Justice System Participant
- Obstructing Justice
- Criminal Harassment
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Administering a Noxious Substance
- Assault
- Trafficking in a Substance
The four people arrested were held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court today.
The investigation, led by the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit, is ongoing and is assisted by the Yarmouth Rural RCMP, Yarmouth Town RCMP and the Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit.
