Update: Youth involved in Cole Harbour shooting charged
The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division has charged the male youth involved in the Cole Harbour shooting with Attempt to Commit Murder.
On October 30, Halifax District RCMP and EHS responded to a shooting on Sedgemoor Crt. in Cole Harbour. The shooting occurred during a party where 20–30 people were gathered outside a residence.
Responding officers and EHS located two 15-year-old victims. One victim had an apparent gunshot wound, was treated at the scene by officers and EHS for their injuries, then transported to hospital by EHS. The second victim sustained minor injuries, was treated at the scene by EHS and released.
The suspect, a male youth who is known to the victims, was located by police in Dartmouth and arrested safely just after 2 a.m.
Investigators have since learned that the shooting occurred over an argument the three youths were having.
On October 31, the 17-year-old male youth was charged with:
- Attempt to Commit Murder;
- Aggravated Assault;
- Careless Use of a Firearm;
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm;
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
- Intentionally Discharging a Firearm While Being Reckless (two counts);
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized;
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition.
The male youth was remanded into custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on November 3, 2022, at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing and being led by the General Investigative Section of RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.
