Donald  Lohnes Homicide Added to Rewards Program

The government is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the homicide of 57-year-old Donald (Donny) Derrick Lohnes.

On October 25, 2020, Mr. Lohnes was attacked and robbed at his home in Pine Grove, Lunenburg County. He suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.

Investigators believe there are people who may have information they have not shared with police that could result in arrests and possible charges in relation to his death.

“We urge anyone with information to contact the rewards program,” said Brad Johns, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. “Investigators need the public’s help in identifying those responsible.”

Anyone with information on this crime should call the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program at 1-888-710-9090. People who come forward with information must provide their name and contact information and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded.

Anyone with information who prefers to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers of Nova Scotia at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Quick Facts:
— the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program is an additional tool to help police gather information on unsolved crimes
— the reward is payable in Canadian funds and will be allocated as deemed just by the Minister of Justice for the Province of Nova Scotia
— including this case, there are now 110 active cases in the program
— five cash awards have been paid out since the program started in 2006
— employees of law enforcement and correctional agencies are not eligible to collect this reward

Today marks 2 years since Donnie Lohnes was attacked and robbed in Pine Grove.

On October 25, 2020, 57-year-old Donald (Donnie) Derrick Lohnes was attacked near a home on Jippie Ave. in Pine Grove. Donnie later died from the injuries he sustained during the attack. His death was determined to be a homicide.

RCMP investigators continue to ask the public for information to assist in solving this crime. Donnie’s case has been added to the Nova Scotia Reward for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, which offers up to $150,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in certain cases. The Provincial Rewards line is 1-888-710-9090.
