Fall Equinox
September 22 marks the arrival of the astronomical fall equinox in Canada. The equinox is the exact moment in time when the Sun stands directly above the equator – the imaginary line around the Earth halfway between the poles – while crossing from north to south. It also marks the time of the year where day and night are of equal length.
Summer 2022 brought persistent warm temperatures across western, northern and Atlantic Canada, where we observed well above normal temperatures from June through August.
Temperature anomaly (difference from normal) for the months of June, July and August.
What is especially noteworthy is the general lack of below-normal temperatures in these regions over the summer period. Many areas have also experienced their warmest June-August period on record, or their warmest July-August period on record.
What to expect this fall?
Looking ahead, we generally expect to see above normal temperatures for most of the country throughout the fall.
