RCMP charge men in incidents in Antigonish and Pictou Counties

Antigonish County District RCMP and Pictou County District RCMP charge two men in a break-in that occurred in Antigonish.

On September 18, 2022, at approximately 7:40 a.m., Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a report of a break-in at a construction property on Hwy. 7 in Antigonish. During the break-in two suspects were observed stealing a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and an enclosed trailer that was filled with tools. The break-in occurred at approximately 5:55 a.m. that morning. One suspect fled the property in the stolen Chevrolet Silverado towing the enclosed trailer, and the other fled in a red Ford Ranger pickup truck.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., Pictou County District RCMP located the stolen Chevrolet Silverado and the Ford Ranger travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy. 327 in McPhersons Mills. Before an RCMP officer could attempt a traffic stop on the vehicles, the Ford Ranger lost control and left the roadway. There had been numerous tools in the bed of the Ranger which were ejected during the collision. The tools struck the RCMP officers police car causing significant damage.

The driver of the Ranger, a 30-year-old Pictou Landing man, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. Once at the hospital, the driver was arrested. The RCMP officer was not injured.

A short time later, RCMP officers, with help from witnesses at the scene, both arrested a 36-year-old Trenton man who had come out of the woods near the area of the collision and located the stolen Chevrolet Silverado. The man was transported to the Antigonish RCMP Detachment where he was held in custody.

Arthur William Cross, 30, of Pictou Landing, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm;
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime;
  • Driving while Prohibited;
  • Failure to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order (2 counts).

Cross was remanded into custody and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court today.

Steven Matthew Wilson, 36, of Trenton, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime;
  • Failure to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order (3 counts).

Wilson appeared in Antigonish Provincial Court on September 20 and was released on conditions, by the court. Wilson will return to Antigonish Provincial Court on October 12, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The enclosed trailer that was stolen was also recovered.
