Digby RCMP plans for the 18th Annual Wharf Rat Rally

Digby RCMP is planning for an increase in pedestrian, motorcycle and vehicle traffic in Digby during the 18th Annual Wharf Rat Rally this weekend.

The Wharf Rat Rally runs from September 1 to 4 and it’s expected that over 50,000 people will descend upon the town of Digby. This will cause traffic delays and there will be a number of road closures throughout the town. Volunteers will be manning the road closure checkpoints and will be providing guidance to travelers. All traffic related concerns and questions can be addressed with the Wharf Rat Planning Committee at 902-245-5924.

There will be a heavy presence of RCMP officers throughout the town to assist with enforcement of no-parking zones, and the promotion of public safety.

As thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts attend the festivities we ask that you keep the following tips in mind throughout the Wharf Rat Rally:

  • Whether you’re riding, driving or walking, be aware of the traffic around you. Ensure other motorists see you and know what you’re doing.
  • If you plan on walking to and from events, wear light-coloured clothing, stay in well-lit areas, and refrain from walking in the middle of the road.
  • Obey the rules of the road and respect posted speed limits, as well as the rights of pedestrians and other drivers.
  • Don’t drink and drive. Ensure you have a designated driver.
  • Ensure you’re familiar with, and abide by, the Nova Scotia Smoke Free Places Act which applies to tobacco, cannabis and e-cigarettes: https://novascotia.ca/smoke-free-places/. If you smoke, please do so in the designated spaces.
  • Exercise patience when driving in and around the downtown area. Much of the downtown core of Digby will be closed to local traffic and parking will be limited.
  • Give yourself extra time to get where you’re going.
  • When parking your cars or motorcycles, keep valuables out of sight.

The RCMP wishes everyone a fun and safe weekend.
