Wind warning in effect

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Locations: Atlantic coast from Lunenburg County to Cape Breton County.

Maximum wind gusts: 90 km/h along the coast.

Time span: ending this evening for Lunenburg and Halifax County. Ending Saturday for Guysborough County and southern Cape Breton.

Remarks: Very strong easterly wind gusts are being observed ahead of the low pressure system. As the low moves over the eastern shore of Nova Scotia, Guysborough County and southern Cape Breton are now forecast to see gusts of 80 to 90 km/h from the southwest, before a shift to 90 km/h from the northwest overnight. These winds will persist well into Saturday in southern Cape Breton.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
