Cumberland County District RCMP charge man with multiple offences

Cumberland County District RCMP has charged a man with firearms offences after an incident in Shinimicas.

On July 4, 2022, Cumberland County District RCMP responded to a neighbour dispute on Mount Pleasant Rd. in Shinimicas. RCMP officers learned that a 59-year-old man had been firing shots from his home and routinely having parties which were disrupting neighbours. As part of the investigation, RCMP officers collected evidence and information which lead to the execution of a search warrant at the man’s home. The man was safely arrested and during the search RCMP officers seized rifles, a cross bow and a compound bow. The man was later released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.

On July 7, Cumberland County District RCMP were again called to Mount Pleasant Rd. for another dispute involving the same man. RCMP officers learned that the man, a 21-year-old man, and a male youth, had been threatening and harassing witnesses involved the incident from July 4.

On July 9, all three were safely arrested at a home on Mount Pleasant Rd. The 21-year-old man and the male youth were later release on conditions and will be facing charges of Criminal Harassment and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. The male youth will also be facing a charge of Uttering Threats.

Timothy Laurie Sterling, 59, of Shinimicas, has been charged with:

  • Intimidation of a Justice System Participant;
  • Uttering Threats;
  • Criminal Harassment;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • Careless Use of a Firearm (2 counts);
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized (2 counts);
  • Possession of Firearms while Prohibited (4 counts);
  • Mischief;
  • Failure to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking.

Sterling was held and remanded into custody on July 9. He then appeared in Amherst Provincial Court on July 14, where he was released by the court on conditions. Sterling will return to Amherst Provincial Court on August 22, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
