Weekly Traffic Advisories (June 24) 

Note: Each week the local listings are expanded and updated. During the week new and updated tasks are added. Every week a new post is started with fresh info but previous posts may be still valid.

Traffic Delay – John Brackett Drive

Location: John Brackett Drive from Glencairn Lane to Powers Drive

Date: Tuesday, July 5 to Thursday, July 7

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This is in support of Halifax Water’s work on the Herring Cove Road Servicing Upgrades.

Traffic impact: There will be a lane drop while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Road Construction – Spring Garden Road

Location: Spring Garden Road, between Queen and South Park streets; Brenton Street, between Spring Garden Road and Clyde Street; and, Clyde Street, between South Park and Brenton streets

Date:​ Sunday, July 3

Time: 7 a.m. to approximately 8 p.m.

Work details: Crews will be on-site changing signage and pavement markings. This project supports the Spring Garden Road Bus-only Pilot, launching on Monday, July 4. For further information on Imagine Spring Garden Road, click here.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic may be in place while work is underway. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay – Herring Cove Road

Location: Herring Cove Road, between Levis Street and Drysdale Road

Date: Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day

Work details: Traffic delays will be in place to facilitate the installation, and temporary restoration, of a pipeline for Heritage Gas. For questions, residents may contact Heritage Gas at 902.466.2003.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway. The current four lanes will be reduced to two lanes. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Road Closure – Waverley Road

Location: 2342 Waverley Road and surrounding area (visit our website for more details)

Date: Monday, July 4 to Monday, August 8

Time: Road closure: 7 a.m. on Mondays to 7 p.m. on Fridays
​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Traffic delay: 7 p.m. on Fridays to 7 a.m. on Mondays

Work details: This work is to improve road safety by replacing deteriorating guiderails and a retaining wall, as well as to apply road embankment erosion protection measures at various locations along Waverley Road. This project is approved by the 2022/23 Municipal Capital Budget and is required to improve traffic barrier protection for the public and resolve street drainage and issuing issues.

Traffic Impact: The road will be opened to a single lane of stop-and-go traffic during weekends (7 p.m. on Fridays to 7 a.m. on Mondays) using temporary traffic signals. During weekdays (7 a.m. on Mondays to 7 p.m. on Fridays), the road will be closed at 2342 Waverley Road and motorists will be detoured around the construction site. Local and emergency access will be maintained on Waverley Road via the intersection with Montague Road up to civic 2300 and Maheux Lane. Addresses north of civic 2350 will have access to Waverley Road via the intersection with Rocky Lake Drive. A signed detour route will be in place and Traffic Control Personnel will be available to direct motorists. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes during this period.

Pedestrians and Cyclists: Pedestrian access will be maintained during this work and cyclists will have the opportunity to dismount and walk their bike around the construction site using the temporary walkway provided.

Transit: There is no impact to transit users.

Night Time Road Construction – Chain Lake Drive

Location:​ Chain Lake Drive, from Lacewood to Washmill Lake drives

Date: Sunday, June 19 to Thursday, June 23 Monday, June 27 to Wednesday, June 29

Time: 6 p.m. daily until 7 a.m. the following morning

Work details:​ This work is for pavement maintenance.​ This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact:​ Lane drops will be in place while work is underway.​ Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes whenever possible.​

Location: Wright Avenue from Windmill Road to MacDonald Avenue

Date:​ Monday, June 27

Time: 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Work details: This work is for pavement rehabilitation. This project supports the 2021-25 Regional Council Strategic Priorities Plan to establish a safe and accessible integrated mobility network.

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place while work is underway, with occasional stop-and-go traffic.​ Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Date: Monday, June 27

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ​

Traffic impact: Lane drops will be in place on Wright Avenue and Burnside Drive while work is underway with occasional stop and go traffic. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes whenever possible.

Traffic Delay​ – Hollis Street

Location: 1880 Hollis Street

Date: Saturday, June 25 to Tuesday, June 28

Time: Saturday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Monday to Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Work details: This work is to install a connection to the water main.

Traffic Impact: A lane drop will be in place on Hollis Street from Cogswell Street to Duke Street. The bike lane will be closed for this block, with cyclists requiring to enter the traffic lane. Motorists can expect delays in the area and are asked to take alternative routes where possible. The sidewalk will be closed on the west side, the east side will remain open.

​ Road Closure – Summer Street

Location: Summer Street, between Bell Road and Veterans Memorial Lane

Date: Saturday, June 25 to Tuesday, June 28

Time: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Work details: This closure is to facilitate construction of the pedway.

Traffic Impact: Pedestrian access and local/emergency access will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists are asked to use alternative routes. Halifax Transit passengers are advised that detours will be in effect for Routes 9A/9B, 123, 127, 182, 183, 185, 186, 194, 196. For detour information, please visit our website

Road Construction – Upper Water Street

Location: Purdy’s Wharf (1949 Upper Water Street) to Casino Nova Scotia (1983 Upper Water Street)

Date: Tuesday, June 28 to Friday, July 22

Time: Weekdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Work details: This work is for the installation of temporary power conduits under the existing sidewalks on the east side of Upper Water Street in support of the Cogswell District projectThis work is in preparation of construction of a by-pass road, which is expected to be in place in Fall 2022.

Traffic impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place while work is underway. Traffic personnel will be on-site to direct traffic and pedestrians. Marked detours will be in place for pedestrians.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes.

Note: Access to the Purdy’s Wharf Parkade will be maintained while work is underway.

Traffic Delay – Portland and Wentworth streets

Location: Portland Street, between Wentworth and Dundas streets, and Wentworth Street, between Queen and Portland streets.

Date: Monday, June 27

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Work details: This traffic delay will be in place to facilitate the filming of a television production.

Traffic Impact: Stop-and-go traffic will be in place for short durations. Motorists can expect delays in the area and are asked to take alternative routes where possible. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the area.

CONTINUING WORK

ANTIGONISH COUNTY: Highway 104, James River

Highway 104, westbound lane about one kilometre west of James River Interchange, Exit 30, is reduced to one lane for about one kilometre.

Twinning work continues until 2023.

Signs are in place and drivers are encouraged to use caution.

CAPE BRETON REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Mira Gut Bridge, Mira Gut

Due to construction on Mira Gut Bridge, Mira Bay Drive from Brickyard Road to Mira Gut Lane is limited to local traffic only.

Access to the beach parking area and washroom facilities will remain open during construction.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Burnett Bridge

Burnett Bridge, over MacLean Brook on Route 224 in Pine Grove/Gays River, is closed until further notice.

Detour signs and 30-tonne weight restriction are in place. All other trucks to follow posted truck route. Detour is via Saint Andrews River Road.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Old Truro Road, Tatamagouche

Old Truro Road, from Kennedy Hill intersection to the Cross Road in North River, is closed until further notice due to a large culvert failure.

A detour is in place.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Salmon River Bridge, Truro

Salmon River Bridge, on Highway 101 between exits 14 and 14A, will be reduced to one lane northbound, until October 31, due to planned work on the bridge decking.

GUYSBOROUGH COUNTY: Route 344 (Main Street), Mulgrave

Route 344/Main Street traffic is being re-routed onto the newly installed detour bridge.
The entrance to Mill Street from Main Street is closed, and drivers should use an alternate route. Signs are in place.

The detour will remain in place until August 31.

GUYSBOROUGH COUNTY: Trunk 16

Trunk 16, from 1.4 kilometres north of Lincolnville Loop, north to Mattie Road, will be reduced to one lane for brush clearing and road work until August 31.

Traffic control is on site. Work takes place weekdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

HANTS COUNTY: Highway 101, Windsor

The eastbound off-ramp at Exit 6, Highway 101, is closed for the construction of a new interchange to downtown Windsor.

A detour is available via Exit 5A. The off-ramp will be closed until September 2023.

HANTS COUNTY: Hydes Bridge, Lantz

Hydes Bridge on Highway 277 is closed until further notice.

A detour is in place via Dutch Settlement Road, Elmsdale Road and Trunk 2. Signs are in place.

INVERNESS COUNTY: Orangedale

Orangedale-Iona Road, from Portage Road southbound for about 5.7 kilometres, will be reduced to one lane for gravelling and drainage work until July 31.

Traffic control is on site. Work takes place weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Indian Path Bridge, Bayport

Indian Path Bridge, Route 332, is closed for replacement until October.

A detour is in place.

PICTOU COUNTY: Route 289 (Little Harbour Road)

Route 289 (Little Harbour Road), from the New Glasgow town line northerly to Route 348, is reduced to one lane for paving and patching until August 31.

Work takes place from weekdays 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Traffic control is on site.

PICTOU COUNTY: Westville Road

Westville Road at the Westville Road Bridge over Highway 104 will be closed nightly, Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Work continues until August 31. A detour will be in place and drivers should proceed with caution.

QUEENS COUNTY: Peterson Falls Bridge, Westfield

Peterson Falls Bridge, on Westfield Road, will be closed for deck replacement until August 5.

A detour is in place.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Port Royal Bridge, Isle Madame

Port Royal Bridge on Port Royal Road is closed until further notice. A detour is in place on MacEachern Road.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Trunk 4

Trunk 4, from Riverside Road eastbound for about 7.1 kilometres, will be reduced to one lane for repaving until September 30.

Traffic control is on site. Work takes place weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.


SHELBURNE COUNTY: Highway 103, Jordan Falls

Highway 103, about 100 metres west of Exit 24, will have alternating lane closures for rehabilitation work on Jordan Falls Bridge until August 31.

Traffic control lights are in place. Work takes place weekdays from sunrise to sunset.

YARMOUTH COUNTY: Lake George Road, Lake George

Lake George Road, from Richmond Road to Crosby Road, has alternating lane closures for roadwork until August 31.

Signs are in place, and traffic control is on site. Work takes place from sunrise to sunset Monday to Friday.
