Municipal service level adjustments on Victoria Day, Monday May 23

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal service level adjustments on Victoria Day, Monday May 23.

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours

No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Monday, May 23. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday, May 23 will take place on Saturday, May 21. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. To ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the municipal recycling plant and municipal composting facility, will be closed on Monday, May 23 and will be open for regular hours on Saturday, May 21.

The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, May 21 but will be open on Saturday, May 28.

A mobile Household Special Waste Depot will be held on May 21 at Mic Mac Mall (21 Micmac Blvd, Dartmouth) from 9 a.m.​ to 4 p.m. rain or shine.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services

Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on Monday, May 23. For detailed holiday schedules by individual bus and ferry route, visit our website.​

Parks and Recreation

Many recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, May 23. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally operated facilities can be found online.

Sackville Sports Stadium will be open regular hours with the fitness centre and some drop-in programs being offered.​ Registered programs will not be offered. Please call the Sackville Sports Stadium at 902-869-4141 for more information.

All sports courts have reopened for the season. Parks, playgrounds and trails remain open. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is available here.

Parking

On-street parking is free as well in paid parking areas on Monday, May 23. Motorists are reminded to abide by all other posted signage.​

Customer Service Centres

The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours on Monday, May 23 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The three Customer Service Centres that currently provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, May 23, re-opening for regular business hours on Tuesday, May 24.

Fireworks

Residents are reminded that Victoria Day is not a permitted holiday for fireworks under the noise by-law. Find exemption information at halifax.ca/exemption

Residents are also reminded of road closures, parking, and transit disruptions as a result of the Blue Nose Marathon. For further details, visit our website.
