RCMP arrest woman for impaired driving in relation to a crash

Colchester County District RCMP has arrested a woman for impaired driving following a vehicle crash on Hwy. 2 in Hilden.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. yesterday, Colchester County District RCMP, EHS and fire responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy. 2 in Hilden. Officers learned that the driver, a 30-year-old woman from Salmon River, fled the scene after the vehicle she was driving, a Toyota Corolla, left the roadway and came to rest in a graveyard. Witnesses reported that a passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Debert, was still in the vehicle.

RCMP officers located the driver nearby and safely arrested her. The driver was transported to hospital by officers and later released. The passenger suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Halifax.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Hwy. 2 in Hilden between Kennedy Rd. and Truro Rd. was closed several hours but has since re-opened.

The 30-year-old woman will appear in Truro Provincial Court on August 3, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. to face charges of:

  • Impaired Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Refusal of a Demand;
  • Obstruct Peace Officer;
  • Failure to Stop After an Accident Resulting in Bodily Harm;
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Harm.
