**** HRM Media Release

Road Construction – Upper Water Street

Location: 2111 Upper Water Street and surrounding area

Date: Monday, April 25 to Sunday, July 31, 2022

Time: 24/7, including weekends

Work details: This work is for the excavation and installation of underground services near HMCS Scotian, in support of the​Cogswell District projectThis work is in preparation of construction of a by-pass road, which is expected to be in place in Summer 2022.

Traffic impact: Two way traffic will be maintained; however, there will be traffic changes, including lane drops, altered center lines to maintain one lane of traffic each way, and stop and go traffic at times. Traffic control personnel will be on-site. Motorists should expect delays.

Road Closure –​ Bedford Highway and High Street

Location: Bedford Highway and High Street intersection

Date: Thursday, April 21, 2022

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Work details: This closure is to facilitate the replacement of a utility pole at the intersection of Bedford Highway and High Street. Traffic signals will be off at the Bedford Highway and Holland Avenue intersection while work is underway. Traffic control personnel will be on site. ​

Traffic Impact: Motorists can expect delays in the area and are asked to take alternative routes where possible.

Road Construction – Barrington Street

Location: Near 2156 Barrington Street

Date: Thursday, April 21 to Friday April 22

Time: 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Work details: This work is for the removal of power poles in support of the Cogswell District project. This work is in preparation of construction of a by-pass road, which is expected to be in place in Summer 2022.

Traffic impact: A lane drop will be in place for northbound traffic on Barrington Street. There will be a brief road closure for cable removal. Motorists should expect delays.

Road Closure – Cogswell Street

Location: Cogswell Street from Brunswick Street to Barrington Street inbound ramp in the Cogswell District (see map #1)

Date: Effective Thursday, April 28, 2022 to December 31, 2023

Time: 24/7

Work details: This work is in preparation of installation of new underground services and a revised street configuration in support of the Cogswell District project.

Traffic impact: The south side of Cogswell Street between Brunswick Street and the Barrington Street inbound ramp will be closed for approximately 20 months. Motorists will maintain eastbound access via the north side of Cogswell Street which will be converted to two-way traffic. The north end exit of Albemarle Street at Cogswell Street will be closed during this period. Access to Albemarle Street, including the Scotia Square parkade, from Duke Street will remain in place.

The sidewalks on Cogswell Street will be closed to pedestrians during this time. Pedestrians will detour via Brunswick and Duke streets to Barrington Street (see map #2).

Halifax Transit Routes 320, 330, and 370 will no longer serve the Albemarle Street after Duke Street stop (9061). Passengers should now use the Duke Street before Albemarle Street stop (6590) for service on these three routes.

Road Closure – Agricola Street

Location: Agricola Street between Almon Street and Ontario Street

Date: Tuesday, April 19 to Thursday, April 21

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Details: The closure is to facilitate water and sewer connections for the multi-unit being constructed at 2710 Agricola Street.

Traffic Impact: Agricola Street between Almon Street and Ontario Street will be closed as well as the west sidewalk. Motorists can expect delays in the area and are asked to take alternative routes where possible.

Recruitment underway for municipal boards, committees, and commissions

Wednesday, April 13, 2022 (Halifax, N.S) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking applications for volunteers to serve on a variety of municipal boards, committees, and commissions. Applications are available at halifax.ca/serve and will be accepted until Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11:59 p.m Wednesday, April 20 at 11:59 p.m.

Municipal boards, committees, and commissions consist of councillors, residents, and industry representatives. These groups provide recommendations to Regional Council, community council, or standing committees, and serve as an important part of the decision-making process.

The municipality is seeking board, committee and commission members that are reflective and inclusive of residents from the Halifax Regional Municipality.​ Meeting schedules and formats will vary between committees, please consult halifax.ca/serve for details on each committee.

CONTINUING WORK

ANTIGONISH COUNTY: Highway 104, James River

Highway 104, westbound lane about one kilometre west of James River Interchange, Exit 30, is reduced to one lane for about one kilometre.

Twinning work continues until 2023.

Signs are in place and drivers are encouraged to use caution.

CAPE BRETON REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Mira Gut Bridge, Mira Gut

Construction on Mira Gut Bridge will continue into the summer. Mira Bay Drive, from Brickyard Road to Mira Gut Lane, is limited to local traffic only.

Access to the beach parking area and washroom facilities will remain open during construction.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Burnett Bridge

Burnett Bridge, over MacLean Brook on Route 224 in Pine Grove/Gays River, is closed until further notice.

Detour signs and 30-tonne weight restriction are in place. All other trucks to follow posted truck route. Detour is via Saint Andrews River Road.

COLCHESTER COUNTY: Old Truro Road, Tatamagouche

Old Truro Road, from Kennedy Hill intersection to the Cross Road in North River, is closed until further notice due to a large culvert failure.

A detour is in place.

GUYSBOROUGH COUNTY: Route 344 (Main Street), Mulgrave

Route 344/Main Street traffic is being re-routed onto the newly installed detour bridge.
The entrance to Mill Street from Main Street is closed, and drivers should use an alternate route. Signs are in place.

The detour will remain in place until August 31.

HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY: Akerley Boulevard, Dartmouth

Highway 107, from Highway 118 to Gloria McCluskey Ave., will have lane reductions for road construction until April 30, to allow for the opening of the new Akerley Boulevard.
Work takes place 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

HANTS COUNTY: Highway 101, Windsor

The eastbound off-ramp at Exit 6, Highway 101 is for the construction of a new interchange to downtown Windsor.

A detour is available via Exit 5A. The off-ramp will be closed until September 2023.

HANTS COUNTY: Hydes Bridge, Lantz

Hydes Bridge on Highway 277 is closed until further notice.

A detour is in place via Dutch Settlement Road, Elmsdale Road and Trunk 2. Signs are in place.

LUNENBURG COUNTY: Indian Path Bridge, Bayport

Indian Path Bridge, Route 332, is closed for replacement until October.

A detour is in place.

RICHMOND COUNTY: Port Royal Bridge, Isle Madame

Port Royal Bridge on Port Royal Road is closed until further notice. A detour is in place on MacEachern Road.
