RCMP charge man after numerous properties vandalized
Halifax District RCMP has charged a man after a number of properties in the Tantallon area were vandalized.
On March 24 at approximately 12:05 p.m., police responded to a report of a window being smashed at church on St. Margaret’s Bay Rd. in Upper Tantallon. The man who smashed the window then fled the scene on a motorized scooter.
While investigating the complaint at the church, police received a report that the same man had smashed a window at a dance studio and damaged a vehicle. The man then went to a nearby store and stole a bag of chocolate, before going to a bank and smashing the glass front door. The man then went to a paramedic base and smashed a window at the base before again fleeing the scene onto the rails to trails system. All of these incidents occurred in Upper Tantallon.
Police entered the rails to trails system and located the man and his scooter. The man was safely taken into custody and his scooter was seized. The man was transported to cells and during the transport, he caused damage to the inside of the police car. The man was subsequently remanded into custody.
At approximately 5:10 p.m., police received a report of damage to a property on St. Margaret’s Bay Rd. in Black Point. Police learned that 4 vehicles on the property had the windows smashed out, that fencing around a horse pasture had been removed and a barn had been damaged. The total value of the damage is estimated at well over $10,000. RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended the property to conduct a forensic examination. Police have since determined that the man involved in the Tantallon incidents, was also involved in this incident.
Damien Nicholas Emile Roy, 26, of Halifax, has been charged with Mischief over $5,000 and Mischief under $5,000 (7 counts). Roy will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
The investigations are continuing.
