Port of Halifax excited for the return of cruise vessels in 2022

Cruise vessels are returning to the Port of Halifax in 2022. The Halifax Port Authority would like to recognize Transport Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada for taking the steps necessary to allow the resumption of the cruise industry.

“This is excellent news for the entire Canadian cruise industry and tourism sector, including the tourism and hospitality destination providers, the tour companies, the service providers that deliver provisioning services for the cruise ships when they are in port, and for port cities like Halifax,” said Captain Allan Gray, President and CEO, Halifax Port Authority. “This announcement today will allow us to move forward with planning and bookings for 2022 and beyond, and now, we are looking forward to working with our partners to rebuild the cruise industry here in Halifax and across Atlantic Canada.”

Cruise is a significant economic driver in Atlantic Canada. The industry contributes to thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the tourism sector. The Halifax Cruise industry contributes an estimated $165-million annually according to the most recent economic impact study into the Port of Halifax. This includes the passenger spend portion, port fees and the provisioning that takes place when those vessels are in port
