Fatal house fire in Auburndale

Lunenburg District RCMP, EHS and Fire Services responded to a structure fire early yesterday morning on Upper Branch Rd. in Auburndale.

At 4:12 a.m. February 19, Lunenburg District RCMP responded with EHS and several local fire services to a house fire on Upper Branch Rd. in Auburndale, Lunenburg County.

Upon arrival, the house was fully engulfed in flames.​ It is believed six people were in the home at the time of the fire. A 36-year-old man and a four-year-old child, both from Auburndale managed to escape the house and were transported to hospital by EHS.​ The remains of four other people, an adult and three children, were found inside the home.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious, however, the investigation is ongoing together with the Nova Scotia Fire Marshall’s Office and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office. The RCMP, Fire Marshall and Medical Examiner’s Office remain at the scene. An area of Upper Branch Road in Auburndale continues to be closed; the public is asked to remain away from the area.​
