Police charge two men for stunting

Today, police have charged two men with driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 118 in Dartmouth. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

At approximately 9 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 in Halifax. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 125 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

A 29-year-old man and a 57-year-old man were ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the two men were suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicles they were driving were seized and impounded.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe. If you see someone driving dangerously, report it to police by calling 911.

RCMP charge a man in multiple thefts from vehicles

Shelburne RCMP has charged a man in multiple thefts from vehicles that occurred overnight between January 9 and 10 in Shelburne.

On January 10, police received multiple complaints of vehicles being broken into and rummaged through overnight. Victims were reporting that various items had been stolen. Early in the investigation, police identified a suspect from surveillance video in the area.

On January 11, a search warrant was executed at a home on George St. in Shelburne in relation to this investigation. During the search, police seized tools and cellphones and recovered some of the stolen property. The suspect was not home at the time of the execution of the search warrant.

On January 19, Donald Reginald Leblanc, 33, of Shelburne, turned himself in to police. Leblanc has been charged with the following:

  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Mischief – Damage to Property under $5000 – 3 Counts;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Trespass at Night – 5 Counts;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Theft under $5000 – 3 Counts;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Possession of Property Obtained by Crime-4 Counts;
  • ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Possession of Break in Instruments.

Leblanc appeared in Shelburne Provincial Court and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to return to Shelburne Provincial Court on March 9, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The Nova Scotia RCMP would like to remind residents to keep their vehicles locked and to not leave any valuables inside.
