Update on investigation into homicide yesterday in Dartmouth

Police are providing an update on the investigation into yesterday’s homicide in Dartmouth and are releasing the victim’s name.

At approximately 4 p.m. on December 21, officers responded to a call related to a shooting involving two vehicles that had just occurred near the intersection of Windmill Road and Waddell Avenue in Dartmouth. Shots were fired at a vehicle hitting an 8-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man. The 8-year-old boy was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died. The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and has ruled the death a homicide. The victim has been identified as Lee-Marion Cain. Investigators do not believe this to be a random incident. The suspects are described as two black men driving a burgundy SUV, possibly a Chevrolet, with tinted windows.

Yesterday’s tragic incident has affected many in our community. We want the public to know that we are leaving no stone unturned and using every means available to us to advance the investigation. We ask anyone with any information to please come forward – no matter how small they think it is – as it could help to advance the investigation.
