RCMP investigating fatal collision on Hwy. 101

Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Hwy. 101 in Coldbrook.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. yesterday evening, police, fire and EHS responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 101 in Coldbrook. Police learned that two vehicles, a grey car and a silver SUV, had been travelling in opposite directions when they collided head-on. The grey car came to rest in a ditch and the silver SUV came to rest against a guardrail. Both vehicles were completely destroyed.

The driver of the grey car, a 64-year-old Kings County woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital by Lifeflight.

The driver of the silver SUV, an 89-year-old Kings County woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. She later succumbed to her injuries.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hwy. 101 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

RCMP charge impaired driver after collision on Hwy. 101

West Hants District RCMP has charged an impaired driver after responding to a collision on Hwy. 101 in Windsor.

At approximately 10:35 p.m. on December 15, police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 101 in Windsor. Police learned that a grey car had been travelling east on Hwy. 101, when it pulled into the westbound lane to pass another vehicle unsafely. As the grey car pulled back into the eastbound lane, it did not slow down quickly enough for traffic that was stopped in a construction zone, which resulted in the grey car striking a red car from behind.

The driver of the red car suffered minor injuries and was transported to local hospital by ambulance. The driver of the grey car, a 23-year-old Ellershouse man, initially fled the scene on foot, but was located a short distance away by police. He was uninjured.

Police observed that the driver was displaying signs of impairment and he was arrested without incident. He was transported to the detachment where he provided samples of breath that were over the legal limit. He was later released and will appear in court at a later date. He will be facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm, Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance over 80mg%.
