Police charge man for robbery

Police have charged a man in relation to a robbery that occurred in Halifax yesterday morning.

On December 16 at approximately 1 a.m. police responded to a robbery in the area of Russell and Isleville streets. A man with a firearm attempted to rob the cab driver who had given him a ride. The man fled the area on foot without obtaining any money, and the cab driver was not physically injured. The suspect was arrested a short time later in the 5600 block of Russell Street without incident.

Diaz Anthony Edward Mantley, 31 is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of illegal firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order
