New Glasgow Regional Police charge man with firearms and weapons offences

New Glasgow Regional Police has charged a man with firearms and weapons offences after an incident on Dalhousie Street, New Glasgow.

On November 17 at 9:20 a.m., New Glasgow Regional Police received a report of an adult male in possession of a knife, chasing an adult female on Dalhousie Street, New Glasgow. Police immediately responded to the area and upon investigation the adult male was arrested at a nearby Temperance Street residence.

The 19-year-old male was immediately taken into custody and transported to Aberdeen Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he suffered a stab wound and was later released into police custody.

The male and female were known to each other and police consider this to be an isolated incident and not a random act. Through the course of the investigation, police determined that there was no risk to the public.

The female was not injured.

A 19-year-old adult male from New Glasgow has been charged with:

Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
Unsafe Storage of a Firearm.
Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order.

He was released on conditions. He will return to Provincial Court in Pictou on January 31, 2021.

New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.
