The Truro Police Service would like to provide an update on the ongoing homicide investigation of Prabhjot Singh Katri.

Update (October 23, 2021- 0900): On Friday, October 22 ,2021, the Truro Police Service arrested a second male, Cameron James Prosper, 20 years of age from Pictou Landing First Nation for murder.

He is now charged with murder, and he is remanded in custody.

The Truro Police Service would like to provide an update on the ongoing homicide investigation of Prabhjot Singh Katri.

On Sunday, September 5, 2021, at approximately 02:07 am., Truro Police Service patrol officers responded to a call from 494 Robie Street in Truro, regarding a male who had suffered serious injuries. ​

Responding officers and EHS personnel provided emergency first aid at the scene. The victim was then rushed to the Colchester East Hants Health Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

As mentioned above, the victim was identified as Prabhjot Singh Katri, 23 years of age, of Truro. ​

Today, the Truro Police Service would like to announce two arrests made in this case.

On Thursday October 21, 2021, the Truro Police Service arrested Dylan Robert MacDonald 21 years of age, of Valley, Colchester County and he is now charged with:

  1. Accessory after the fact to murder
  2. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  3. Flight – motor vehicle in evading peace officer (Flight from Police)

On Friday, October 22 ,2021, the Truro Police Service arrested a second male, Cameron James Prosper, 20 years of age from Pictou Landing First Nation for murder.

He is now charged with murder, and he is remanded in custody.

Charges have been laid against a third individual, and a warrant has been issued for Marcus Denny, 22 years of age, of Pictou Landing First Nation. He is now charged with:

  1. Accessory after the fact to murder

We anticipate further charges being laid as the investigation continues.

The Truro Police Service would like to thank Mr. Singh’s family and friends, and the Maritime Sikh Society for their patience, trust, and support during this investigation.​

We recognize this was and continues to be a difficult time for those close to Prabhjot. We also want to acknowledge the pain that this senseless act has caused the entire community, and we understand that people have been very anxious and fearful.

Knowing how important a quick resolution was, our investigative team worked tirelessly to conduct an extensive investigation.​ This work is complex and technical, and our end goal has always been bringing those responsible to justice.

We also want to thank the North Nova Major Crime Unit, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the Halifax Regional Police Criminal Investigation Division for the assistance that they provided to our team.

Since this case is now before the court, the Truro Police Service cannot comment on or release any additional details in this case as we don’t want to jeopardize a successful prosecution.

Our goal at the Truro Police Service and the Town of Truro is to create a welcoming community where diversity is valued.​ All members of our community deserve to feel safe and protected, and we hope that the news of criminal charges in this case, can help with the grief the community is experiencing.
