Halifax District RCMP investigate break-in and firearms theft

Halifax District RCMP is investigating after a home was broken into on Hwy. 7 in Lake Charlotte.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 8, RCMP responded to a complaint of a break-in at a home on Hwy. 7. Police learned that a man had broken into the home at approximately 5:15 p.m. on August 7 while the homeowner was away. During the break-in, the male stole a gun locker containing a number of firearms and cash, a safe and a piggy bank. The suspect was observed leaving the home at approximately 5:25 p.m. on Hwy. 7.

Police have since identified the suspect as Justin Jody Dempster, 31, of Dartmouth. Dempster is also the subject of Canada-Wide Arrest Warrant for violating conditions of his Parole.

On August 9 at approximately 6:35 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop and located Dempster in a vehicle on Hwy. 7 in Sheet Harbour. Police attempted to arrest Dempster who then fled in his vehicle.

Dempster is described as white, 5-foot-10, 185 lbs, with short hair and brown eyes. Dempster’s tattoos include one on the right side of his neck, which is easily visible. Should you see Dempster, please don’t approach him and call 911.
