54.7 kg of suspected cocaine seized by CBSA officers in Halifax
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Atlantic Region, announced the seizure of suspected cocaine found concealed within a shipping container in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
On June 10, 2021, CBSA Waterfront Cargo Inspection Unit officers examined a shipping container at the Port of Halifax.
As a result of this examination, 54.7 kg of suspected cocaine was seized by officers. The CBSA estimates this seizure to be valued at approximately $6.8 million. The suspected drugs were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for further investigation.
CBSA officers assigned to the Waterfront Cargo Inspection Unit are specially trained to detect contraband entering Canada via shipping containers. This work is critical for stopping the illegal importation of drugs before they make their way onto Canadian streets.
The CBSA also works closely with the RCMP and other domestic and international law enforcement partners to prevent the flow of drugs across international borders.
