Adoptable Highlight – Felix
He wants you to look deep into his eyes. They are the colour of honey, and just like that tasty treat, Felix is sweet as can be!
This 3-year-old guy is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix who would do best in a single-family home (no apartments or condos). Felix LOVES to hear himself and despite the staff begging him to, he refuses to give up “singing” as his pastime.
Felix was found roaming in HRM and when no owner came forward to claim him, he made his way to the Dartmouth SPCA. During his initial stay he was noted to show some odd behavior. Staff found that when he becomes overly excited (especially when pulling on leash) at times his legs will slowly give out. This seems to only last a brief moment and quickly rights itself. He has been examined by our shelter veterinarian multiple times and the only medical concerns diagnosed was some arthritis and spondylosis.
He does require daily medication to help manage pain and his anxiety. The ideal lifestyle for him would be a family with mild activity levels with no animals and no children under 16 years old. Long easy-going paced daily walks are the best thing for Felix and his joints, plus a weight control diet. For dogs like Felix, places like Cape Split likely would not be the best day trip. Flat walking trails as well as swimming would be great options to help him get into shape.
Felix is available for adoption from the Dartmouth SPCA. Interested in adopting? Read the next steps in the adoption process here: novascotiaspca.ca/adoptionprocess
