At 1:12 p.m., Halifax Regional Police officers were patrolling Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, one of the parks and beaches, which has been currently closed to the public and to which the travel is currently prohibited as a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of COVID#19. Officers located an abandoned Toyota Yaris in the area of the park. At 1:53 p.m., a Police Service Dog and handler located a 44-year-old female and the owner of the vehicle present on the shoreline in violation of the order. Officers seized the vehicle and the female was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for Section 23(b) Emergency Measures Act, Failing to comply with direction, order or requirement made under act/regulations, with an associated fine of $697.50.

Halifax Regional Police strongly advises members of the public to educate themselves on the directives and new enforcement measures in the order of the Chief Medical Officer issued on March 24 at novascotia.ca/coronavirus. These measures have been proposed to address the unprecedented #COVID-19 crisis we are facing as a community, and it requires everyone to be mindful of their obligations on social distancing, gatherings and other precautionary measures. We also thank the vast majority of citizens who are following direction and complying with these rules for setting the right example and for protecting yourself and your community.
