Potential high risk exposure to COVID-19 at the Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre in Eastern Zone
Nova Scotia Health Public Health is advising of an update to a potential exposure to COVID-19 at the Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre in Eastern Zone. Public Health is investigating confirmed cases of COVID-19 and evidence of transmission.
Anyone who worked at or visited the Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre on the specified dates and times should immediately self-isolate, get tested and continue self-isolating for 14 days, even with a negative test result.
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ *UPDATED SELF-ISOLATION AND TESTING DIRECTIONS* Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre (3W4, 95 Maillard Street, Membertou) on April 17 from 6:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. and April 18 from 12:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. It is anticipated that anyone exposed to the virus at this location on the named date may develop symptoms up to, and including, May 2.
Even if your test result is negative you must continue to isolate up to and including May 2, 2021 at 11:59 p.m., 14 days from the potential exposure due to coming in close contact with someone who had COVID-19. You will also need to get tested again on April 30, 2021.
If your test result is positive you will be notified by Public Health directly.
The asymptomatic testing site at Cape Breton Regional Hospital (1482 George St., Sydney) extended its hours today to offer drop-in testing until 9 p.m., however has reached its testing capacity for the day. ​ Starting tomorrow, the testing site will move to Membertou Entertainment Centre (11 Chief Ben Christmas Awti’j, Membertou) and will offer testing to all. This means even if you have symptoms, have been at a potential exposure site or have been contacted by Public Health, you will be able to drop in to the clinic for testing.
We continue to increase testing capacity in across Eastern Zone to respond to the rising demand. Anyone can book an appointment at any of the testing sites across the province by visiting covid-self-assessment.novascotia.ca/or by calling 811.
Important notes when visiting the drop-in testing site:
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Testing method is standard PCR swab or Swish & Gargle for children and youth up to age 18. Preparation is required for gargle testing. View instructions (PDF).
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Please bring your health card if you have one.
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ You may have to wait in line outside; please dress accordingly.
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Testing is free.
Please remember:
Do not go directly to a COVID-19 assessment centre unless it is a drop-in location. Please book an appointment online or call 811 and do not go to a pop-up rapid testing location.
Currently, anyone who traveled outside of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador is expected to self-isolate alone for 14 days after arriving. If a person returning from non-essential travel outside of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador is unable to isolate alone, then everyone in the home where they are isolating will have to self-isolate as well.
