Hal-Con Update: 2021 Plans

Happy Spring, Hal-Con fans! As we enter this next stage of 2021, we want to share our plans for the rest of the year.

We share the hope felt by many Nova Scotians that the coming months will continue to see low COVID case numbers, limited community spread, and increased rates of vaccination. Nova Scotia’s response to the pandemic has been held up as a gold standard across the world, and we’re so fortunate to live in a place that can afford us safe socializing opportunities.

Of course, we’re not out of the woods yet, and we want to make it clear that Hal-Con 2021 will not look like Hal-Con 2019. Although we expect that a large percentage of our usual attendees will be at least partially vaccinated by October, we do not expect that it will be safe to gather by the thousands this year. Our organizing committee has been working hard to find alternatives to a full-sized con that will give our community the chance to come to an in-person event that is safe, fun, and accessible to all who want to attend.

We don’t have firm details to share yet, but we are working on an event plan that will focus on local geeky art and culture with as many elements of the “normal” Hal-Con experience as (safely) possible. We also plan to offer digital content both to enhance the in-person event and offer to people who can’t attend. As always, we want to thank our partners at the Halifax Convention Centre for their flexibility and their assistance in the planning process.
