**** HRP Media Release

Recently police dispatch has been receiving numerous calls from the public requesting police take action against people that they believe have traveled to the Truro / Colchester area from HRM.

While Public Health is asking Nova Scotians to avoid non-essential travel in and out of western and central HRM (which is defined as HRM from Hubbards to, and including, Porters Lake and the communities up to Elmsdale and Mount Uniacke in Hants County) we’d like to ask the public to avoid calls to our non-emergence police number with complaints of this nature.

While we appreciate concerns about the spread of Covid-19, this travel restriction isn’t in Public Health Orders and cannot be directly enforced by police.

At this time Public Health are asking people to stay close to their home region, but there is not a regulation or law in place currently that gives police the authority to prevent Nova Scotians from travelling within Nova Scotia.

Stay safe, be kind and follow Public Health guidelines which can be found at http://novascotia.ca/coronavirus
