When the tragic events in Portapique happened in April, the staff of Sojourn Signs wanted to do a fundraiser to support the RCMP Fallen Officer Fund in memory of Cst. Heidi Stevenson along with the families of the victims through the Red Cross Stronger Together Fund.
They designed a unique heart-shaped Nova Scotia Strong support ribbon with the Nova Scotia tartan for people to display on their vehicles, trailers, houses or wherever they saw fit.
“The support shown was humbling, to say the least”, says Jeff Slauenwhite, Operations Manager for Sojourn Signs. “We had people from across Canada and the US ordering ribbons. We had ribbons ordered from as far away as Germany.”
With over 2,000 ribbons sold, they were able to raise $10,000.00 to be donated. Proceeds were shared between the RCMP Fallen Officer Fund and the Red Cross Stronger Together Fund.
Today, RCMP Sgt. Tony Upshaw received a cheque for $5,000.00 on behalf of the RCMP Foundation and the RCMP Fallen Officer Fund.
Sojourn Signs would like to thank everyone who showed their support and made this fundraiser successful. Our hearts are with the families of all those affected by this tragedy.
